¼ inch reel to reel tapes have been in use for decades, and like most decades-old storage media they’re getting more and more fragile with every passing day. Not only are these tapes at risk from environmental damage and physical deterioration, they’re also useless without machines to play them on – machines that aren’t getting any younger themselves.

DAMsmart, however, has a solution. Our digitisation process allows your organisation to transfer the commercially and culturally important contents of your ¼ inch reel-to-reel audio tape library to a secure, shareable digital medium.

Before it’s too late

With our audio digitisation services, your content will be transferred to a digital format that can be played on any digital device and shared across the internet, ensuring that they’ll never be lost as long as someone still wants them and making transferring to new backup media much easier.

Our digitisation systems include professional tape decks and analogue-to-digital converters. All of our systems and workflows have been developed and are operated in line with the recommendations from the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives’ TC-04 standard for audio preservation.

We offer a complete, scalable service, whether your collection consists of a single ¼ reel-to-reel tape or 10,000 of them. If your tapes have seen better days, we use best practice techniques to clean and refresh them, bringing your content to its best possible quality before it is digitised. Everything is done in-house.

Once the process is complete, your digital audio archive can be delivered in multiple file formats to address your needs of preservation and access.
